ask first

Ask Before You Send

Responding to a missionary request for help, the Ladies Aid Society of a local church spent hours cutting old sheets into strips to make bandages. The bandages were sent to a leper colony in Africa where the missionary worked.

The lepers opened the package before the missionary returned to the field and were puzzled at the rolled up strips of cloth. After some serious discussion, the lepers decided the strips of white cotton could be sewed into bed sheets that would be really useful.

You can imagine the consternation of the Ladies Aid Society when they received a wonderful thank you note from the missionary telling them how the cloth had been put to work.

It serves as a wonderful reminder not to just send stuff to missionaries (or to others!). Ask them what they need and fill that need.
