Be respectful. “You can be direct without being offensive,” says Urban. “Saying things like ‘I hate my haircut’ instantly makes the stylist shut down and sets a negative tone that’s hard to recover from. Imagine your boss coming over to you and saying, ‘The work you’re doing is horrible.’ I highly doubt you would do your best work after that. But saying, ‘Is it possible if we change the shape a little bit? I’m not sure if it’s working for me,’ keeps the conversation going in a positive direction,” she advises.
