the ‘Good News’ of the Easter season

Blog: The ‘Good News’ of the Easter season

In my Bible today, I couldn’t help but notice the captions “Jesus is Buried!” over Mathew 27:57-66 and “Jesus is Risen!” over Mathew 28:1-15. Truly this is the wonderful theme for the Easter season for Christians all around the world.

The Easter season is a time of new birth in nature and a time we as Christians remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the “Good News” that God loves us and did not leave us helpless but provided a way to be reconciled with Him.

Jesus, God’s son and God in the flesh, really did come, live and die, paying the penalty for our sin upon the cross. Jesus rose from the grave, proving He is Lord in deed. There is nothing we can do to earn this great sacrifice but to believe and receive it. No other payment is needed. Not good works. Not a “try harder” attitude. Only faith that Jesus is who He says He is and that He fulfilled the great plan of salvation for sinful man by overcoming death.

Our hopes, our security for the future, our sustaining grace for all our tomorrows – there is no way we could live the life that God calls us to if it weren’t for both, Jesus’ death and resurrection. Here in lies the power of the Gospel, the “Good News.”

As we celebrate the Easter season, remember John 3:16. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, should not perish, but have eternal life.”
