mysterious ways, part II

“God will never give you more than you can handle.” I’m rethinking that. I know it’s meant to be a source of encouragement to those facing hardship, but I’m not sure it’s true.

Think: If God didn’t give us MORE than we can handle, how would we ever come to lean on Him? It’s when we are overwhelmed and at a loss of strength that we surrender to Him. I don’t have to surrender much if I can handle it.

Maybe we should pray, “Lord, you have given me more than I can handle… I’m leaning on You… I’m unloading on You…” For when I am weak, I am strong –because of what He can do. “Cast your burdens on Him…” I tend to cast what I can’t handle.

That’s what He wants from me. And you.

God does give us more than we can handle, but never more than “He” can handle. Why? In order that His glory can be displayed and His grace can shine to others through us. More of Him and less of me… It’s the only way to handle life –when He gives you more than you can handle.

BTW, when you give Him what you can’t handle, you will be amazed at the peace He will give you in return.
